Sony Cybershot DSC-HK100V is amazing digital camera with very good specifications. It has a 30x optical zoom, and after taking a picture you can zoom in even 8x on the photo and it will still be clear, with a perfect bijama without blurring. It is amazing and crystal clear HD video, high speed linear-focus, you can fix the backlight down to the smallest detail, and incredible low-light performance.

The Cyber-shot HX100V is Sony’s first DSLR-styled super-zoom model since the Cyber-shot HX1 back in 2009. Since then Canon and Panasonic have established a strong position in this market with the PowerShot SX30 IS, and the Lumix FZ100 and FZ45 / 40 (not to mention the latest FZ47 / FZ48). Does the Cyber-shot HX100V have what it takes to re-establish Sony in the Super-zoom market, or has two years out of the game given the competition too much of a lead for Sony to regain? Let’s find out in our full review of the Sony Cyber-shot HX100V.
Although the ISO 100-200 settings are of good enough quality, examine them at actual pixel size and there’s notable softness and over-sharpened artifacts that result from processing. Here’s where RAW shooting would have come in handy for more user control – though there are three-level controls for Sharpness, Colour Saturation, Contrast and Noise Reduction to add that extra lick of detail (it’s only possible to see the results off-camera though, so you’ll need to tweak with the settings and view files in full before you know what suits). Above ISO 400 and image quality becomes even more limited, meaning the HX100V isn’t ideal for high ISO, low-light work – a shame when considering the success of Sony’s Twilight mode as found in its current compact camera range. However exposure is always accurate throughout the zoom range and scenes exude realistic colours whatever the ISO settings.
Adding to the HX100V’s snapshot simplicity, these features join face recognition and smile shutter functionality on board, the former mode biasing human faces in the frame and the latter mode firing the shutter when it detects a smiling subject. The Face Detection system automatically adjusts the focus, exposure and white balance for people in the frame, and can even be set to distinguish between children and adults. Smile Detection offers three self-explanatory options, Big, Normal and Slight. Used in conjunction, the Face and Smile Detection systems do result in more hits than misses, especially in contrasty lighting conditions, although all those smiling faces could ultimately freak you out a little! The self-portrait options in the self-timer menu work by automatically taking the shot with a two second delay after either one or two people have entered the frame.

Like other superzooms, the HX100V is equipped with both an adjustable LCD and an eye-level EVF (electronic viewfinder). The 3-inch, high-resolution, 921,000-pixel LCD provides a clear view for composing and playback, with a five-step brightness control, and it worked well in our testing under most lighting conditions. The monitor is hinged at the bottom, so you can flip it out and tilt it for overhead and low-angle shots. The EVF is clear, albeit a little dark, and a diopter enables you to adjust the viewfinder to your eyesight. An eye sensor automatically switches between the LCD and the viewfinder, but sometimes it’s faster to switch manually, thereby avoiding a slight delay in the automatic process.
